Watercolor Challenge

Posted by Picasa

In my perusing of blogs I followed links and landed on Inspire Me Thursday which has a weekly art challenge. This weeks is to do a watercolor. The only thing I've done in the past with watercolors was with Hero flower stamps which I may post another time. I've decided it's time to stretch my wings so I took up the challenge and painted the above trees. It was an interesting process since I didn't really know what I was doing. I started with making an abstract background with three colors and then added the trees. Just kept playing with it and still wasn't happy because it looked cold and inspiration hit and I warmed it up with some spatters. I think I actually like it. Hope you all enjoy my first attempt at painting.

Welcome to IMT!! This is a wonderful watercolor ...reminds me of winter, with the bare trees and the sparkling snow...

They look like happy little trees. Where's the happy little brook?

Sorry had to make the obscure reference.

Looks lovely!

I would never have known that you 'didn't know what you were doing'...your art has such a wonderful element of fantasy. I see the trees but it truly made me think of an underwater forest of seaweed and sea grapes gently swaying with the currents. You captured the light!

This is so misty and atmospheric. I love the way the trees seem to emerge from a fog. The splashes of color are a gorgeous addition. I think you did a great job! So pretty!

I often find the best things happen when I just let go and don't really know what I'm doing - it feels great too. I really enjoyed your painting. Welcome to IMT. x

This painting is so light and airy...I feel like I could just float right through those trees. For someone who doesn't know what they're doing, you did a wonderful job! Thank you for sharing.

The spatters are great on it . Love the colors :)

Love the splatters, it gives it a sense of freedom and abandon! Watercolors are a fickle medium for me so I try to just have fun with them and let them do what they want :)
